Middle-aged men have quite a few challenges in the battle of staying fit and lean. You have a career that is taking off, demanding lots of time. Often you have a growing family, and the time you spend with them leaves little time for your workouts. The pickup games of basketball you may have played when you were younger are no more. Hormone levels are dropping, causing it to be harder to hold onto the muscle you worked for in your youth. Now comes the time where you need to figure out what works and how to get the most out of you time in the gym.
Let’s face it, you don’t have all day to walk on a treadmill, so you need to figure out what gets the most bang for your buck. Focus on the major muscle groups, such as chest, back, legs and shoulders. Cardio is more important than ever, so hop on your favorite piece of cardio equipment and do at least twenty minutes, trying to burn as many calories as you can in that time. If you have more time, try to go a little longer on the cardio, maybe add some bicep and triceps. This should help you get the most out of your time at the gym.
