It's a rarity to escape from the city in the city. Hopefully your schedule has slowed just enough for summer to get reacquainted with an old flame. When's the last time you've been to The Houstonian? Talk about the ultimate staycation in Uptown! Once you're in, there's every reason to stay.
This 18-acre wooded oasis in the heart of Houston has what I long for in a vacation -- real R&R! The fitness center is world-class, the pools are inviting and the award-winning Trellis Spa is in a league all its own. If you haven't already done so, head to my website at Goodtaste.tv for a chance to win a romantic spa weekend at Trellis that includes two 50 minute Swedish Massages. http://goodtaste.tv/giveaways/win-a-romantic-spa-weekend-at-the-houstonian/ If you win, it would be the ultimate gift to yourself! :)

So, let's talk food because it's fabulous! Goodtaste recently caught up with Executive Chef Neal Cox of the on-site restaurant, Olivette, as he dished on three seasonal favorites off the Dinner Menu. http://goodtaste.tv/2017/05/home-away-from-home-at-the-houstonian/ We begin with dessert!
Hold your breath for "The Big Banana Pudding" -- piled high with house-made vanilla wafers, caramel sauce and mounds of vanilla cream. It reminds me of my mom's banana pudding, just kicked up a notch! Catherine Rodriguez, the longtime Pastry Chef at The Houstonian, is responsible for this lavish confection. It really is comfort food at its best.

On to other dinner items that dazzle ... Chef's Bison Tartare. It has a leaner, more distinct flavor than beef. Love the presentation on the salt block too! Another delish choice is the Pan Roasted Boar - a wild boar chop from East Texas, cured overnight and served with a mouthwatering guajillo chile glaze. It's plated with fresh arugula, pickled baby corn and a sweet potato hash.

These outstanding eats -- and plenty more – are available all summer long at The Houstonian. Plus, see what they have in-store for Dad on Father's Day here. http://www.houstonian.com/Hotel/activities/a-prime-fathers-day.aspx
